TEENAGERS and police have been getting their hands dirty while helping clean up a Howdon park.
Officers from Wallsend’s neighbourhood policing team and members of Wallsend Boys’ Club gave the new Howdon Lane skatepark a tidy-up as part of a National Citizen Service pilot project.
Pc Simon Goonan, neighbourhood beat manager for Willington Quay, said: “We were happy to get involved in this worthwhile project, which sees young people giving up their time to improve the park, benefiting other young people and their families.
“A litter-strewn area soon looks uncared for and can attract disorderly behaviour, so we wanted to help nip this problem in the bud.”
North Tyneside Council provided refuse sacks and gloves, and the Greggs shop in Battle Hill Drive supplied packed lunches .
