Youngsters reached new heights after a visit from an Olympic and Commonwealth star.

Commonwealth gold medal-winning gymnast Craig Heap visited Norham High School, in North Shields, to meet with a select group of students.

As part of the Sky Living for Sport Programme, he oversaw the group which had been working on team-building, resilience and confidence in decision-making.

A spokesman for the school said: “Craig talked the lads through the six steps to success and they rated themselves on each of the steps.

“They then did some practical work involving the six steps and had a chance to reflect on their ratings.

“The practical work was very different from what they are used to and really challenged them.

“Everyone enjoyed their day.”

They added: “The visit was part of the Sky Living for Sport programme in which we have been looking at working together, resilience, confidence and problem solving.

“Craig helped to celebrate the work done so far and to talk to the cohort about his experiences.”

Craig’s visit also inspired a group of other students to try their hand on the trampoline after the session.
