A NEW chaplain team leader has been appointed for the Northumbria Healthcare Trust.
Rev Kathy Jones has been appointed full-time chaplain for North Tyneside General Hospital.
And she will also oversee the chaplaincy services right across the trust area.
The chaplaincy team helps to provide confidential comfort and support to people in hospitals in Northumberland and North Tyneside who are facing difficult situations such as illness, bereavement or life pressures.
Kathy said: “I am delighted to join the trust and offer support to people at North Tyneside General Hospital and throughout the area.
“The trusts chaplains are available to people of all faiths or none.
“We understand that being in hospital may make people feel more vulnerable.
“We are here to listen, to support and to ensure that people have access to appropriate religious or spiritual support if that is important to them.
“We can offer comfort and support by visiting people on the wards, listening to concerns and providing a quiet space away from the ward area.
“We are also employed to support staff, visitors and volunteers. ”
The trusts chaplaincy team offers support across the hospitals and has strong links with the community and locals churches, which helps provide volunteers who can assist patients to help them attend services in the chapel.
The chaplaincy service covers Northumberland and North Tyneside – the general hospitals at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Hexham have chapels for quiet reflection and prayer.
