A celebratory meal was held to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The Whitley Bay, North Shields and District branch of the Royal British Legion held the event at 216 Transport Squadron Royal Logistics Corps’ base at the Reserves Centre in Tynemouth.

Les Gilchrist, who organised the event, said: “We invited members of our branch as well as some of the adult instructors from our affiliated cadet units. The evening was a great success and we are very grateful to everyone else who helped us.”

Vivien Lisher, one of the members of the Royal British Legion who attended, said: “The two chefs did an excellent job producing a fantastic dinner.”

The event also saw a raffle, which raised more than £285 for the Poppy Appeal.

The Whitley Bay, North Shields & District branch of the Royal British Legion has raised over £74,500 for the 2015 Poppy Appeal.
