A man who has been a huge influence in North Tyneside has been rewarded for his efforts.

Les Walton scooped the title of ‘Hope Diamond’ at the Percy Hedley Foundation Alternative Business Awards last week.

The award was presented during a fundraising evening, with a tongue in cheek take on a traditional awards ceremony.

Almost £18,000 was raised on the night for The Percy Hedley Foundation.

Julie Calvert from the charity foundation said: “Raising this amount of money is a fantastic achievement in just one night.

“It will help us to continue to deliver the high quality services for disabled children and adults that we have done for the last 60 years.”
