ANNIVERSARY celebrations for a rescue team were put on hold after being called out following a sighting of an object out at sea.

Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) was called out on December 5 – the date of its 148th anniversary – after a women saw the yellow object a mile off Whitley Bay, which she thought might be a vessel in difficulty or a life-raft.

TVLB members arrived on scene just after 1.30pm and confirmed the object was a yellow mine buoy.

The call was put down as a false alarm with good intent.
