WHITLEY Bay lighthouse manager Adam Kelsey is X-cited about landing a starring role on television.

Adam, manager of St Mary’s Lighthouse, makes a brief appearance in the title sequence for the new series of X Factor spin-off The Xtra Factor.

The first episode of the series was seen by one and a half million viewers on Saturday night.

Standing in front of the lighthouse, Adam was part of a montage also featuring Gateshead’s Angel of the North to get across the message that the talent show’s contestants come from all around the UK.

Hosted by pop star Olly Murs and presenter Caroline Flack, the show features auditions and interviews not seen on the main programme.

Adam said: “I wasn’t sure what to think when they first got in touch. I wondered if someone had set me up for an audition.

“As I can’t sing a note, I’m pleased they were just here for the stunning background the lighthouse provides. It certainly looked great on TV, and I’m sure people will try and find out more about it.”

Thousands of people have been through the doors of the lighthouse already this summer, many venturing up the 137 steps to the top for the picturesque views of the coast it offers.

The Xtra Factor can be seen on ITV2 on Saturday evenings.
