Little money or little prudence?

Residents of the borough are constantly told, ‘the council have no money’, redundancies afoot’, ‘essential services are stretched’.

So why when residents (backed by Sandra Graham) find a way to save the council £50,000, do council officers seem unable to keep the purse strings tight?

I refer to the now infamous Grosvenor Drive parking shambles in Whitley Bay.

The residents’ suggestion, spend a little money to maintain the current paved path. Monitor it and if the pavements need tarmac, do it next year with the almost £50,000 saved.

No, say the council officers, we must spend this money now.

So the question remains – not enough money or not enough prudence?
