STUDENTS took centre stage as a college celebrated its emerging talent.

Wallsend’s Tyne Metropolitan College held its annual Student Awards at a packed Playhouse Whitley Bay, handing out awards and certificates to numerous youngsters.

Principal and chief executive Jon Vincent said: “The college works very closely with employers and other partners to ensure course content is tailored to suit the needs of industry and to give our students the best possible start to their working lives.

“We are always very proud to share what is a very special day with our students, their friends and family, our business partners and special guests.”

The event was sponsored by Potts Print UK, with director Dan Tobin presenting Ross Hepburn with both engineering student of the year and overall student of the year prizes.

Sam Haley, TyneMet’s director of learner services, said: “Ross is an extremely dedicated and self-motivated individual. He’s a real team player and a worthy winner of the overall student of the year award.”

The other winners were Carl Brown, Lewis Burgess, Warren Mitchell, Jim Scoffham, Donna Gardener, Rebecca Angus, Sarah Daglish, Jenna Sharpe, Aaron Nergaard, Mark Carrielies, Katie Strickson, Ross Wilson, Daniel Thompson, Hannah Lewis, Gary Smith, Kris Mooney, Paula Walsh, Lisa Potts, Louise Cairns, Hamideh Mansouri, Celina Whittaker, Robert Hodgson, Ryan Trewick, Alex Marshall, Joe Danquah, Richard Talbot and Jonny Grigg.
