Air weapons stolen from borough car
A HAUL of air weapons have been stolen from a car in North Tyneside.
At 9.15am this morning, Friday, March 8, police received a report that a car parked off Lynn Road in North Shields, had been broken into a number of air weapons stolen from the boot, and a sat nav stolen from the glove box.
It is believed four air rifles, 22 air pistols and one bright orange blank firing pistol were stolen, along with some hunting knives.
All of the items are legally held by the owner, and police are carrying out extensive enquiries to trace the air weapons and the people responsible for the theft.
DI Neil Brotherton, North Tyneside area command, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the theft or saw anything suspicious in the area as soon as possible.
“In particular, anyone who knows the whereabouts of the large number of stolen air weapons should get in touch.
“While these are air weapons and there is no danger to the public, if used irresponsibly they can cause injury.
“We recognise the theft could cause concern and I’d like to reassure people in the area we are doing everything possible to trace the firearms and the people involved.
“We would urge anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information can contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
