An ecologist who spent two years working with koalas and saltwater crocodiles in Australia has joined the team at Tynemouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium.

Terry Mckeon, originally from Scarborough, has a degree in ecology and extensive experience at wildlife parks and aquariums around the world.

The 26-year-old was involved in a number of different conservation programmes including a green turtle rehabilitation project at Ocean Park in Australia.

Terry said: “I’m really excited to have joined the team.

“During my studies and travel I have been lucky to work with a huge range of different animals ranging from koalas and kangaroos to sea turtles and giant crocodiles.

“I have to say having the chance to work so closely with seals and sea-lions is a great privilege, although the water temperatures here are significantly lower than the west coast of Australia.”
