Arcade game helps showcase borough's tourism
TOURISM promoters are using a retro arcade game to showcase the types of outdoor activities on offer in Tyne and Wear.
The game is part of a marketing campaign aimed at encouraging residents and visitors to get out and active this summer at the region's attractions and free activities available in the city, countryside, parks and coast.
The game, at www.getoutandactive.com is inspired by the classic Commodore 64 game, Daley Thompson's Decathlon Super Active Challenge, and takes participants through a range of levels with tasks that include dog walking, cycling, surfing, horse riding and climbing past some of Tyne and Wear's most recognisable landscapes.
Cath Hindle, tourism co-ordinator for Tourism Tyne and Wear, said: "Many of us can remember the fun of old school arcade and computer games, and as modern games consoles are so popular we thought it would be really fun to reacquaint older computer game enthusiasts and introduce a younger generation to a few minutes of joy playing a retro game of this kind.
"As well as the instantaneous fun, it also highlights the great activities available outdoors and at fantastic attractions across the region."
The website also provides information on where to take part in these and many more activities and tips on places to visit, dine at, and enjoy with various prizes to be won.
