A DISABLED youngster was all smiles after winning a competition to design a logo for one of the north east’s leading disability charities.

Azhad Fauzi’s artwork has been chosen to be the Diamond Jubilee logo of the Percy Hedley Foundation, which supports disabled children, young people and adults.

The charity launched the competition for children, young people and adults that access its services.

And 11-year-old Azhad, who attends the Percy Hedley School in Forest Hall, was selected as the winner.

And now his logo, a bright purple diamond, will be used throughout the charity’s Diamond Jubilee year.

Carole Harder, chief executive of the foundation, said: “We wanted a special logo to use for our Diamond Jubilee celebrations and Azhad’s bright purple design really caught the eye of the judging panel.

“Percy Hedley Foundation has grown substantially over the past 60 years in response to the need for practical support and services for disabled people.

“We’re proud that, over the years, thousands of people have learnt to become more independent and are now able to lead fuller and more active lives because of the support they have received at the foundation.”

The charity has a number of events planned throughout the celebration year.

These will include the launch of its Achievement for All Appeal, which aims to raise £6m to develop a new national centre for excellence, comprising new teaching and therapy units, a hydrotherapy centre and children’s residential facilities.
