A caring Cullercoats woman has been crowned employee of the year for her work at the Children’s Heart Unit in Newcastle.
Barbara Kidd, who works as a domestic assistant on Ward 23, scooped the first ever employee of the year award at the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s inaugural Personal Touch Awards.
Barbara received numerous nominations from colleagues, including doctors and nursing staff as well as parents, outlining why she is a much cherished member of the unit team.
“I’ve been working on the Children’s Heart Unit for nearly 30 years now and I still love it,” she said.
“Throughout the day I get to talk to everyone from the surgeons, doctors and nursing team, but most importantly the families, so I get to know them all really well.
“I’m very proud to be seen as an important part of the team.”
Kingsley Smith, the trust’s chairman, said: “Barbara’s unwavering commitment to her job underpinned by a caring approach to everyone she met, demonstrates the very essence of what these awards are all about.”
