Bay plans go forward
A COMMUNITY group looking to bring a number of events and activities to Whitley Bay are close to gaining temporary accommodation.
Culture Quarter won a lot of support last year from residents for their ambitious plans to put the Dome at the Spanish City back on the local and national map.
Although they have yet to win the support of North Tyneside Council, officials at the group are pushing on with bringing a programme of cultural events to the town.
Their proposals had included using the Dome as a base for Mind Sports – including chess, board and card games – as well as bringing drama and music groups to the town.
And to kick off 2009, Culture Quarter are arranging for their Ceilidh Club to start holding a monthly event in the Trojan Rooms, next to the Avalon Hotel in South Parade.
It will take place on Saturday, January 24, from 8pm to 11pm and will feature the band Summerhill Folly.
Tickets cost 6, or 4.50 for Culture Quarter members, and can be bought at the venue or via the Trojan Rooms website.

Officials at Culture Quarter are also hoping to open a shop front in the old newsagent opposite the Berkeley Tavern this month.
It will enable members of the public to call in and find out what the company is up to, make suggestions and get involved in activities.
