A council apprentice has picked up an award after his work was praised by course leaders.
Billy Shaw, a playwork apprentice at North Tyneside Council, was named ‘Student of the Year’ by his course leaders at TyneMet College.
Mayor Norma Redfearn, who presented Billy with his award, said: “Billy’s development during the programme has been truly outstanding and I know our play team are delighted with his work.”
Kevin Black, trainer at TyneMet, said: “A turning point for Billy was our team-building residential course.
“While there he exceeded everyone’s expectations – helping others and showing a real passion for his own development.
“It was here that we spotted his potential for working with young people and it’s great to see his subsequent success with the council team.”
