Bookhappy at school’s club

An after-school club that encourages reading for pleasure has been promoting its work with a support agency.

Marine Park First School in Whitley Bay has a group run by Bookhappy, an organisation promoting reading and an UnLtd Star People Build It award-winner.

Director Cate Mathews said: “We set up Bookhappy to promote reading for pleasure.

“We work closely with children, their families and other agencies to achieve this.

“Research shows that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of academic success.

“Our sessions help children to develop positive associations with stories and books, and we have particular success with so-called reluctant readers.”

Schools and other providers about their work who would like more details can call Cate on 07925 961274.
