Borough as safe as houses, says police survey

NORTH Tynesiders reckon the borough is a safe place to live, according to a survey.

The police survey reveals that 96 per cent of the 1,256 residents asked feel safe living here.

Chief Superintendent Steve Neill, of the police’s North Tyneside area command, said: “This is a very positive response and shows that local officers are meeting the needs of their local community, which is very important to us.

“Some 82 per cent of respondents said they think the police in their area do a good or excellent job.

“These findings give us a solid foundation to work on to continue to seek improvements to the high-quality police service we currently deliver.

Borough mayor Linda Arkley added: “We know that North Tyneside is a safe place to live, but it’s vital that our residents actually feel safe too. That’s why these results are such encouraging news.”

The survey was carried out between last April and December.
