AN ITEM of underwear is being used to help a charity supporting women fleeing from oppression.

Shirley Hallam, ambassador for the Breast Cancer Campaign, team up with staff at ticketyboo hairdressers in Whitley Bay to put a bra bank in the salon in Park View.

More than 1,000 bras were donated, which will be recycled, deconstructed and sent to countries to help women.

Shirley said: “This is a fantastic way of giving to charity without asking for money.”
