A group of air cadets are flying high with a new qualification after completing their initial training.

The 28 young people from 2344 (Longbenton) Squadron passed their BTEC Level 1 Award in teamwork, personal skills and citizenship.

To gain their award, the young people have learned about airmanship, navigation, radio communication, leadership, ceremonial drill, and campcraft.

Cadet Adam Corbett, 13, of Killingworth, said: “We have done some fantastic things and it’s great that we get a qualification from it.

“We’ve been flying, gliding, taken part in radio exercises, assault courses and helped our community by doing conservation work. The award has helped me to stick in at school that bit more.”

Squadron boss, Flight Lieutenant Gary Richardson said: “We’re all very proud of our youngsters who have gained their first of many qualifications and I congratulate them all.”
