Call off sees Bay’s fixture backlog grow even more

SATURDAY’S surprise snowfall meant that all Ebac Northern League first division games were called off yet again.

Even Whitley Bay’s fixture at Durham City’s all-weather pitch, which was under three inches of snow, was postponed.

This latest cancellation adds further to the lengthy backlog of fixtures, but Whitley Bay will be hoping to make up some ground over the next week, when they are scheduled to play four games.

This Saturday’s trip to third placed West Auckland sees Ian Chandler’s side take on one of their main rivals, with Whitley in fourth place, eight points behind but with three games in hand and a superior goal difference.

Then on Tuesday, March 5, Bishop Auckland, currently in fifth place, visit Hillheads.

This is another tough game, with Bishops hoping to end Whitley’s remarkable 13-match winning sequence in league games between the sides.

Then on Thursday, March 7, Whitley Bay will be playing their third game in six days when they travel to mid-table Sunderland RCA.

Two days later comes another difficult test when Shildon visit Hillheads on Saturday, March 9.

Assuming the weather does not intervene again and all of these games go ahead, Whitley Bay will still have another 15 league games and at least two cup ties to play before the end of the season, so every member of the squad will have a part to play.
