A rugby club has been on the ball with its latest donation to help hospital patients.

Percy Park Rugby Club has donated £600 to help people who need treatment at North Tyneside General Hospital’s accident and emergency department.

The money was raised from the takings of the gate of the club’s match with Rockcliffe Rugby Club on Boxing Day.

The club chose A&E as in the past year a number of players have been treated in the department.

Nicky Jenkins, senior staff nurse in A&E, said: “We are delighted that Percy Park has chosen us as their charity this year and would like to thank them for the donation.

“The department has close links with the club and other sports groups in the borough and our staff are on hand to treat any injury that may occur on the pitch.”

Club president Kevin Dale said: “Due to the nature of rugby, many of our players have had cause to go to A&E and, without exception, they have received high quality care from the dedicated staff.

“We’re pleased to be able to give something back to the department and go some way to helping people who need to attend for treatment in the future.”
