A group of Chinese primary school children have been visiting friends at two Wallsend primary schools.

Pupils from Battle Hill and Hadrian Park primary schools welcomed 18 students from Fuqiang Primary School Shenzen, China, last Wednesday.

The Wallsend schools have developed a friendship with Fugiang Primary School through the Comenius Project.

The Chinese visitors are in the borough until June 13.

Mayor Norma Redfearn, said: “I’m delighted to welcome our Chinese friends to North Tyneside and I hope they have an interesting and worthwhile trip.

“We live in an increasingly globalized society, and international partnerships like these are important in helping develop children’s understanding of different cultures, helping them to develop as global citizens.”
