Churches work together to help homeless
CHURCHES in Whitley Bay will make a real difference to the lives of local homeless young people this Christmas as they worked together to produce 70 gift packs for young people supported by Depaul Trust in North Tyneside.
The past month has seen over 20 local churches asking their congregations to collect small gifts to make up Christmas treat packages for disadvantaged young people in our area.
Pip Grant, project worker at Compass, supported accommodation for young people, commented:
'We leave the gifts outside the young people's doors on Christmas Eve so that they have a surprise to wake up to in the mornings.
"The young people will love them – it's just like Santa had visited them!'
As you might expect for homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, the demands of the season can be overwhelming and upsetting.
They approach Christmas in a state of anxiety, preoccupied with their problems and often acutely aware of the distance between them and their family.
This activity can show them that there are people who care – they are not forgotten.
