Collision leaves four-year-old with broken leg.

A FOUR-year-old girl is recovering in hospital after being knocked over at a pedestrian crossing in North Shields on Saturday.

The youngster was on Wallsend Road when she was struck by a white 4x4 just after 1pm when it was heading towards Chirton.

She was taken to the RVI where she is receiving treatment for a broken leg.

Police are investigating the crash, and have spoken to a number of witnesses.

However, officers say there are other witnesses they need to speak to, and they are urging anyone who stopped at the scene and who is yet to come forward at the earliest opportunity, as it’s believed they may have important information.

Witnesses are urged to contact police on 101 ext 69191, for the attention of PC 927 Steve Clare of the Roads Policing Unit at Etal Lane Police Station.
