Competition ringers

A New Experience for the Bell Ringers of Whitley Bay
The members of St Pauls Guild of Bell Ringers entered a team to compete in the six bell striking competition organised by the Durham and Newcastle diocesan Association of Bell Ringers. This competition was held at St Marys Ponteland which has six bells on Saturday 2nd March.
This was the first time in thirty years the St Pauls Guild had fielded a band solely of Whitley Bay ringers Our team included a member who had only started to ring a bell last February and other members that had only rung for two or three years.
On the day the sun shone and 8 teams competed, all producing some excellent ringing making it difficult for the judge.
Our Guild competed against some of the finest teams in the area and came a credible seventh place.
 The results were as follows:
1st Hexham A (Cambridge); 2nd Newcastle Cathedral (Bob Minor); 3rd Hexham C (call changes); 4th Hexham B (Bob Minor); 5th Ponteland (Doubles); 6th Morpeth (Bob Minor); 7th Whitley Bay (call cha

FOR the first time in 30 years, St Paul’s Guild fielded a band solely of Whitley Bay ringers at a striking competition in Ponteland.

The guild competed against some of the finest teams in the area and came a credible seventh.

The ringers of St Paul’s who took part said they were justifiably proud of their achievement and of representing Whitley Bay, and look forward to competing in future competitions.
