Council urges residents to use its system

Residents are being encouraged to consider signing up for the borough’s Care Call service instead of ‘expensive’ personal alarm contracts.

Officials at North Tyneside Council say some personal safety systems can cost around £180 to install on a three-year contract.

However, they say the local authority’s tailored telecare system offers a range of monitored devices and equipment to support people to live safely in their own home.

Coun Lesley Spillard, cabinet member for adult social care, said: “The telecare system can be tailored to the needs of the individual and will raise the alarm in the event of falls, smoke, flooding or a whole range of other events that can pose a risk for older or vulnerable people.

“Care Call can cost from only £3.83 per week and no installation charge.”

All Care Call customers receive a community alarm, which will normally be in the form of a pendant or wrist alarm that they wear at all times, while devices include smoke alarms, flood sensors, medication reminders, bed sensors and door sensors.
