Hundreds of people tried their hand at making cakes – but craft ones instead of the baked variety.
Nearly 300 children, parents and grandparents visited the former X catalogue shop in Whitley Bay’s Park View Shopping Centre to take part in the craft session let by local artist Kathryn Wakeman.
Youngsters aged one to 15 cut, coloured and stuck materials to make buns, cupcakes, cakes and gingerbread men to transform the empty unit into a virtual cake shop.
Kathryn said: “So many people have been taking a second look at the window display as some of our cakes have looked so realistic. We even had one lad who came in wanting to buy a cupcake.”
Centre manager Tony Wilson said: “The kids are always looking for things to do on holiday.”
