A Whitley Bay artist has paid homage to his upbringing in his latest exhibition due to go on show in London.

Danny Passarella is preparing for his first art exhibition, Fantasy Scenes, in The Gallery at Forge & Co from July 25 to August 3.

And he is hoping to have a follow up exhibition at the Unit 44 gallery in Newcastle later this year.

The ten science fiction-esque images feature vintage arcade machines, while the backgrounds are augmented images of Whitley Bay.

Danny said: “It’s just lucky that Whitley Bay had all these characteristics which apply to other European towns.

“It’s a seaside resort, but I remember it not being sheltered from culture. Aged 12, we were breakdancing on the promenade.

“The Victorian features have crumbled and the arcades are simply gone.”

Danny added: “I don’t own a console or play games now. The people I’m aiming at don’t really either, but they remember these machines.”

The exhibition itself consists of the ten Fantasy Scenes, a selection of which will be available as digital pigment prints in limited editions.
