BOSSES at a Killingworth company are celebrating after being shortlisted for a national award.

NBT Group has been shortlisted for Family Business United’s Family Business of the Year 2013.

They are also shortlisted in the North of England, North Wales and Northern Ireland category, and are the only company from the north east to get through to the voting stage.

The awards recognise the contribution that family businesses make to the economy, identifying those that excel in their field of work; an online vote helping determine the winners.

NBT Group was established more than 100 years ago and is now in its fourth generation of management with the founder’s great grandson, Toby Bridges, at the helm.

Managing director Toby said: “It was great news to hear that we have been shortlisted for the awards and it is a real testament to our efforts that we are the only north east company in the running.

“We have always been passionate about family-run firms succeeding.

“The awards are publicly acknowledging the value of these firms to our economy as a whole which in itself is credit-worthy.

“We will be trying to drum up as much support as we can for our nomination to be in with a chance to come away with an award as ambassadors for the north east region.”

The regional awards will be determined a combined score of public votes and a judging panel of experts and the overall UK winner will be down only to the ‘people’s choice’.

The awards ceremony will take place in London on June 12.
