Eileen publishes her first full-length novel
A WRITER who grew up in Whitley Bay is set to publish her first novel about a military cover-up which starts in the north east.
Eileen Thornton's The Trojan Project is a thriller which follows several protagonists in their quests to find the truth behind a state cover up.
She told the News Guardian that The Trojan Project has been more than two years in the making.
"I'm quite pleased with it and I hope everybody likes it," she said.
"It's a fast-paced chase from the Borders down to London."
Ms Thornton was born in Low Fell, Gateshead, and later moved to Whitley Bay where she attended the old Park school.
The Trojan Project also delivers a moral message about the production of chemical weapons, and the hypocrisy of western governments lecturing other nations about making such armaments.
Chemical weapon tests in the Cheviots set the story in motion, with the plot taking the reader on a journey through many Northumberland towns such as Seahouses and Alnwick.
After fleeing the north east protagonists eventually end up in London in a bid to escape the cover up.
Ms Thornton, who now lives in Kelso, in the Scottish Borders, is a member of the Society of Authors and is an experienced author of short stories.
The new book represents her first step into a full length novel.
The Trojan Project, published by Austin and Macauley is released on May 27 at most online retailers and book stores, RRP 8.99.
