YOUNGSTERS at a borough school have bene learning about racism from two former football players.

Ex-Middlesbrough defender Dean Gordon, and former Newcastle striker Richard Offiong, called into Appletree Gardens First School in Monkseaton on Monday.

Year 3 and 4 pupils took part in a series of workshops as part of the Show Racism the Red Card campaign, before enjoying a kick-about with Dean.

Year 3 class teacher, Mitchell Dent, said: “This workshop was excellent at teaching the children about the causes and consequences of racism, and the various forms it can take, as well as getting them to challenge any misconceptions they may have about racism.”
