Family could be key factor in striker bid
SUNDERLAND could lose out to Wigan Athletic should they follow up an initial interest in bidding for Everton's Andy Johnson after it was claimed the player's family are keen to stay in the north west.
A report in The Daily Telegraph has Wigan's Geordie boss Steve Bruce as the favourite to land the former Crystal Palace and Birmingham striker's signature.
Sunderland have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old in recent weeks, however, it is believed the player is unwilling to uproot his family from their home in the north west.
Everton boss David Moyes has said he does not want to sell the player, who has scored 17 times in 61 Premier League appearances for them.
But both Sunderland and Wigan are said to be keen taking Johnson, who moved to Goodison Park from Selhurst Park in an 8m deal two years ago.
Wigan tried to sign the player at the time but the England international chose a move to Everton ahead of the JJB.
Johnson is currently in Switzerland at Everton's training camp.
