THOUSANDS of people helped bring a touch of festive cheer to Whitley Bay last Sunday.

More than 3,000 people attended the annual Christmas Fair at Spanish City Dome.

There were more than 40 stalls featuring town traders and homeworkers selling a range of gifts, crafts, and food.

Festive artwork by local schoolchildren decorated inside the Dome, while there was a music and entertainment area.

Construction group Robertson, preferred developer of the Spanish City area, organised the event with Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade and North Tyneside Council.

Robertson built a Santa’s Grotto, provided a Christmas tree and arranged entertainment including stilt walkers and fire eating acts.

Martin Westgate, regional business development director for Robertson, said: “We’re delighted to support such a wonderful event that brings Christmas cheer to so many families.”

Lisa Mitchell, of the chamber of Trade, said: “This is a special event. It’s an opportunity to showcase the wonderful businesses on our high street and the wealth of emerging talent from our homeworkers.”

Proceeds from Santa’s Grotto, tombola and raffle – £1,060.60 – were presented to this year’s charity, Whitley Bay Young People’s Centre.
