Festive songs spread cheer at hospitals

Patients, visitors and staff at North Tyneside General Hospital are being treated to songs to help spread the festive cheer at Christmas.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in North Tyneside and Northumberland is holding a series of Christmas events at its hospitals.

Schools and community groups are coming to wards and hospital entrances – including North Tyneside General Hospital – to sing carols and festive favourites to entertain patients, visitors and staff on the wards.

The events, organised by the trust’s Bright charity in partnership with the chaplaincy service, include Preston Grange Primary School at North Tyneside General Hospital, Ashington Salvation Army Songsters at Wansbeck General Hospital, Prudhoe West First School at Hexham General Hospital, as well as events at community hospitals.

Rev Kathy Jones, who oversees the trust’s chaplaincy service, said: “Being in hospital at this time of year can be difficult for patients of all ages so the aim of our programme of events is to spread some festive cheer on our wards.

“Our patients really enjoy the singing and it’s lovely to see the smiles on their faces.”
