Firefighter Victoria takes on a new role

A firefirefighter is hoping to continue the adrenaline rush after being appointed a trainee instructor.

Victoria Redhead has been taken on by North Shields-based Maersk Training.

The 24-year-old, from Cramlington, has previously worked as a call handler at the North East Ambulance Service while is also a firefighter for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.

Victoria said: “The opportunities at Maersk really appealed to me, as a trainee instructor you are learning and enhancing your skill set all the time.

“The hours are flexible, catered to an instructor’s individual needs.

“This is ideal for me combining my role as a trainee instructor alongside my position as a retained firefighter.

“To be able to develop a career for myself and teach people at the same time is invaluable experience.

“I am also working to achieve accreditation in a range of areas such as fire awareness, confined space training, manual handling and working at height.

“At the end of my training, I hope to stay on and specialise as a wind instructor as the renewable sector offers great opportunities and this is an area I particular enjoy.”
