Fisherman is injured after fall from boat into marina

A FISHERMAN had to be rescued after falling overboard and becoming trapped against a dock wall.

The man had been climbing down a ladder on the dock side of the Silver Wave while it was moored in the Royal Quays Marina, but he fell into the water, getting trapped between the vessel and the dock wall.

He was found sometime later by another fisherman, with the emergency services plus Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade on hand.

The lifeboat crew got the fisherman on board the rescue vessel and took him to a nearby pontoon, where he was placed on a spinal board by paramedics.

The casualty was then taken to North Tyneside General Hospital for further assessment and treatment but his injuries were not thought to be serious.

The incident happened at 9.25pm on Tuesday, February 26.
