Five arrested on suspicion of murder

POLICE investigating the murder of North Tyneside teenager Rikki Todd, have arrested five people all on suspicion of murder.

Rikki Todd aged 19, from Camperdown in North Tyneside, was assaulted in the early hours of Christmas Eve at around 1.24am outside the Halfway House pub in Station Road, Camperdown.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he died on Tuesday, December 27.

On Thursday, January 12, a 15-year-old boy, two 17-year old boys and two 18-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently helping police with their enquiries and are being interviewed by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Ged Noble, the officer leading the murder investigation, said: “Police are still appealing for witnesses and for anyone with information about this incident to contact police. We’d ask anyone who has not yet come forward who was in the area at the relevant time on Christmas Eve to ring police straightaway.

“Also anyone who has information about this incident to speak to officers.

“The local Killingworth neighbourhood policing team continues to work closely with the local community to provide reassurance.”

Previously on December 25, police charged two 17-year-old boys from the Blyth area with assault causing grievous bodily harm. Of the three others arrested at that time, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were released without charge, and an 18-year-old man was released on police bail in connection with a separate assault.
