Pupils have been celebrating after soaring to success in a prestigious event.

Year 8 students at Wellfield Middle School in Whitley Bay,won the prestigious Faraday Trophy, presented to them by the Institute of Engineering and Technology.

The group had to design a miniature air rocket and present their product to a panel of judges.

The judges were impressed by the quality of the pupils’ model and also by the high quality of their team work and presentational skills.

Pupils from the school have also recently participated successfully in a project organised by the British Science Association and in a National Mathematics Challenge.

Headteacher Steve Collinson said the school was immensely proud of the achievements of the pupils and delighted that the school is making so much progress in these important areas of the school curriculum.
