Air cadets are celebrating after winning an award for their remarkable charity work which saw them hit a landmark figure.
Every year cadets from 1156 Whitley Bay Air Cadet Squadron brave all weather elements in the region to stand on the streets or in supermarkets with their collection tins to raise money for the Royal British Legion and the RAF Association.
And over the last ten years they have raised a total amount of more than £100,000.
In 2013 they won the Lord’s Lieutenant Poppy Appeal competition by collecting £7,500.
A squadron spokesperson said: “Despite hearing so many bad things about the youth of today, these cadets work tirelessly for such good causes year after year. I am very proud to be involved in their organisation.”
