A FOOD bank in the borough has celebrated its first birthday.

During the last 12 months The Bay Foodbank has distributed more than 550 food boxes to vulnerable families and individuals in Whitley Bay and surrounding areas.

Life for The BAY Foodbank began in an upstairs flat, space that was kindly donated by Oxford Street Methodist Church, Whitley Bay, and has now been given a larger warehouse space free of charge by local umbrella charity Angels of the North.

A giant birthday cake made by Jackie Dickinson, was cut my North Tyneside Mayor Linda Arkley, and distributed to helpers and beneficiaries of The BAY Foodbank.
