Four arrests over death

FOUR people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man in hospital after an incident in a North Shields street.

Police were called to the town's Rudyerd Street just before 2am on Tuesday to investigate reports that a man had been injured.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital, but died later that morning from his injuries.

A post mortem revealed that the man, not yet named by police, was killed by internal haemorrhaging.

Four people – a 39-year-old man, a 20-year-old man, a 15-year-old boy and a 40-year-old woman – were arrested by police and were still in custody yesterday.

Inquiries into the death are continuing, and police are urging anyone who saw what happened to call them on 03456 043043 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
