Children spending the festive period in hospital were given an early treat this year when toys and goodies were dropped off at North Tyneside General.

Billy Taylor organised the day after helping raise the money at Killingworth Social Club on a Thursday night with the bingo members.

Almost £1,000 was raised allowing them to buy toys and gifts for the Children’s Ward.

Billy, from funeral directors W S Taylor and Sons in Forest Hall, delivered the gifts on Monday.

Ward manager Carole Clayton said: “The children on the ward are absolutely delighted to have these extra toys to play with.

“We are extremely grateful to Mr Taylor for his fundraising efforts.

“Being in hospital at this time of year can be difficult for children and receiving so many new toys is a fabulous early Christmas present and really makes a difference.

“They will be well used and will keep our young patients entertained throughout the year.”
