A Whitley Bay gym has raised almost £3,000 for a cancer charity.

Jill Anderson of Healthlands organised three events, including a charity ball, and these helped raise £2,859 for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Jill wanted to help the charity as members of the women-only fitness club have experienced first hand the work Macmillan does, as well as the support they have given family members and friends affected by cancer.

She said: “We have got a lot of members in the gym who are going through treatment for cancer or who have friends and family affected by it and the Macmillan nurses have really helped.”

The gym held a coffee morning and ‘Mr & Mrs Spinning class’, as well as the ball at the New Saville Exchange in North Shields.

Jill added: “Everyone has been very supportive, and we are keen to help Macmillan, so if anyone is in the Whitley Bay area and wants to help fundraise, they can call in to the gym and speak to me.”

The owner of Healthlands has also pledged to donate £1 to Macmillan for every new member that joins.
