A triathlete and Olympians joined forces to put together a training session for people who have signed up for a charity run.

England coach Tracey Sample joined forces with GB volleyball Olympians Nathan French and Peter Bakare for the session at Newcastle’s Exhibition Park.

The event gave runners two weeks to put the skills and exercises into practice ahead of the CHUF Heart and Sole run in Jesmond Dene on June 15.

Tracey, a long time supporter of CHUF, said: “The fact that there is three distances – 1.5km, 5km and 10km – means it really is inclusive and all the family can take part, especially with the fun day activities going on alongside the runs.

“There will be some very fit people taking part, and just importantly many people who have never done a run before but want to support the cause.

“Nathan, Peter and I just wanted to give something back to those who are currently fundraising and either looking forward to or dreading their own run.”

For further information on the run, and to sign up, visit www.chufheartandsole.co.uk

The charity is hoping to have 800 people running across the three distances on the day.

The run starts and finishes in Paddy Freeman Fields winding its way through Jesmond Dene.

It was the idea of CHUF trustee Ivan Hollinsworth, who holds the cause close to his own heart after his son Seb was saved by the unit at the Freeman Hospital.

Ivan said: “Tracey is Triathlon England’s North East Participation Coach of the Year and Nathan and Peter represented the country at the 2012 Olympics so our runners were in the best hands to get going for the big day on the 15th June.

“I am taking part in the 10km myself and enjoyed the training session along with other runners.”
