High-flying teen gains his wings

THE sky really is the limit for one North Tyneside cadet after bagging himself a prestigious flying scholarship.

After gaining his Silver Gliding Wings at RAF Topcliffe in North Yorkshire last year, Cadet Sergeant Hardit Parmer, of the 2344 (Longbenton) Squadron, has now achieved his Flying Wings with Tayside Aviation in Dundee.

The 18-year-old said: “The two-week course was just phenomenal.

“The instructors were great and gave me more confidence each time I flew.

“We flew a sortie on the last day and landed on the runway; we got to the taxi-way and the pilot said to me “Right we’ll stop here, I’ll get out – you’re going solo”.

“I then just went through everything I’d been taught and had the most incredible experience ever.

“I flew solo and I thank the Air Cadets for that.”
