High tide hits Tynemouth

Waiting for Video...

Heavy waves thrashed on to Tynemouth beach this afternoon as high tide hit the north east coastline.

Passers-by stood and watched as the beach was submerged underwater, as diggers filled with sand tried to prevent as much damage as they could.

In North Shields the banks around the Fish Quay burst, causing roads and offices to be flooded.

Other areas affected North Tyneside are ‘Flats News’ and ‘Brewery Band’ the Shields Ferry landing and Low Parade, Whitley Bay.

A slide show of pictures show the scenes at Tynemouth Longsands thanks to photographer John Millard
