Homeless charity gains national praise

A REGIONAL homelessness charity has received a ringing endorsement from a national organisation that advises major donors on giving funds.

Newcastle-based Tyneside Cyrenians was recommended by New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) in a report that examines the causes of homelessness.

The Lost Property report said: "Tyneside Cyrenians is a dynamic and ambitious organisation, which is developing new work that benefits its clients and contributes to the knowledge base of the sector.

"Initial evidence is promising, and services appear well-designed and run by experienced and committed staff."

Tyneside Cyrenians supports vulnerable people with varied and complex needs, helping them to establish a routine, earn industry-recognised qualifications and secure employment.

Martin Brookes, chief executive of NPC, said: "Helping homeless people to secure a job is vital if we are serious about reducing the problem.

"Donors should support charities like Tyneside Cyrenians, which work with homeless people in innovative ways that make a real difference."

NPC advises on a range of charitable good causes and highlights the work of 144 charities nationally across a range of needs such as community, education, health and disability, the environment and international matters.

Stephen Bell, chief executive of Tyneside Cyrenians, said: "Clearly we are delighted that our work has been endorsed by New Philanthropy Capital.

"The news that we are to join their recommended list has given the whole organisation a real boost.

"Our staff are tremendous.

"They are committed and hard working. This is a tribute to them and their continued success."
