Housing development rejected

A DIRECTOR at The Banks Group has spoken out about the disappointment of having their planning applciation for a new residential development in Palmersville rejected.

The planning committee voted against the plans for 61 two, three and four bedroom homes on a site off Great Lime Road.

Banks were confident the application next to the Forest Gate site would be granted, after planning officers at North Tyneside Council recommended approval.

But the decision went against the north east firm, with 18 votes to one vote against.

Mark Dowdall, environment and community director at The Banks Group said: “Given that our plans were recommended for approval by North Tyneside Council’s planning officers, and that thre is an acknowledged and presing need for more family homes in the area, we are very disappointed that the Council’s planning committee chose not to follow their officers’ advice.

“The substantial investment we’re looking to make in this project would open up new options for people wanting to move into or stay in the area, ad would also provide new revenue benefits for local shops and services, as well as much needed boost for the local construction industry and supply chain in terms of skilled tradesmen and building support.

“New funds would be created for use in the area by the local Council, and it would also enable us to fund a number of physical improvements to the area which would benefit the whole community.”

The site was set to offer a number of different options for first time buyers and established home owners, as well as 25 per cent allocation of affordable housing.

Mr Dowdall added: “As a north east based family business that knows this part of the region very well, we believe this is an entirely appropriate scheme for it’s proposed location, and that the areas of concentrated employment nearby, including Cobalt Business Park, would make it very desirable.

“We will now examine the planning committee’s reasons for its decision in detail before deciding what we do from here.”
