Hundreds pound the streets in annual Christmas run

Hardy runners put their Christmas indulgence to the side by taking part in an annual fundraising event.

A reported 850 people took part in the annual Woodlawn School’s Christmas Pudding Fun Run.

People of all ages took part in the three-mile run along the seafront in Whitley Bay, which started and finished at the War Memorial on The Links.

Runners from clubs across the north east were joined by fun runners and some dressed in fancy dress, with each one receiving a medal and Christmas pudding at the finish line.

Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell was once again on hand to start the event and hand out prizes to the winners.

All proceeds from the race go to Woodlawn School, in Monkseaton, which caters for children from two to 19-years-old with physical, medical and sensory needs.

The event is organised by Woodlawn School Parents & Friends Association and North Shields Polytechnic Running Club.
